Villas, Townhouses, Housing Projects
'Where do local Krakow people actually live?' - I cannot count how many times this question popped up while I was walking around the Old Town and historic Jewish Quarter with my guests. To give you a perfect answer, I designed this private city tour of two districts: Podgorze and Nowa Huta. Although the history of these districts is about 150 years apart, both places are connected with times which shaped and defined Polish national identity: times directly before and directly after WW2.
Podgorze District
Modern art, local artists' homes, majestic villas and quaint river-bank cafes and restaurants. The district connected with times before WW2 provides eye-opening context for the story of the war in Poland.
Nowa Huta District
Former 'Lenin Steelworks' and 1950s housing projects designed and built to provide housing for the labourers. Perfect place to understand social and economic challanges of the communist era.
Alternative Culture
With lots of street art and vibrant cafes and bars, Nowa Huta and Podgorze are definitely the most hip districts in town.
Local Experience
The route is packed with beautiful buildings, lots of greenery, gasping stories but also thriving with genuine local life which you will not experience in the Old Town or Jewish Quarter.
